EARLEY OSTEOPATHY

London Mobile Osteopathy Service

VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT

My aim is to aid and encourage individuals to be proactive with their health and recovery, relating to various pains and discomforts of a musculoskeletal nature. I will use my skills/knowledge to find the root cause(s) of your symptoms, to clinically diagnose, establish an appropriate treatment plan with formal education to help with prevention and restoration of health and vitality.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a distinct/alternative “patient centred” primary healthcare profession based on simple and astute principles. ‘An individual’s integrated structure and functionality is a fundamental component of Osteopathy’. Osteopaths strive to learn and educate each individual on their structural tensions/weakness/misalignments/pain/health and other issues from posture, nutrition, exercise and lifestyle factors then relate these to the various individual functional issues that hinder quality of life. Osteopaths use their extensive knowledge to formulate a working diagnosis, establish an applicable treatment and home care plan to encourage self-reliance therefore reducing further episodes and preventing future musculoskeletal and other related disorders, all without the use of drugs or surgery.

What To Expect

A professional registered Osteopath who will listen to you and give you time to help discover the cause of your presenting complaint in a relaxing and reassuring environment. Your first visit will be a consultation, in which we will discuss your presenting complaint, medical history, lifestyle factors, familial factors and anything else of relevance. Following the above the Osteopath, with your consent, will conduct a series of physical examinations which will include active/passive movements and relevant Orthopaedic tests. These tests will help the Osteopath establish a working diagnosis and create an agreed treatment plan for you.

(IMPORTANT NOTE)

The hands on nature of Osteopathic treatment may require the patient to dress down appropriately so that they can assess and touch the areas of the body causing concern. It is advisable to have a pair of shorts and a light T-shirt for your appointment. If this is an issue for any reason, please contact the Osteopath to discuss this further.

What Do I Treat

As an Osteopath, I treat the individual rather than the presenting symptom(s) or condition(s); we treat the person who has the condition or the symptoms. This is what makes Osteopathy unique and appealing. It centres on you as an individual, taking into account the full range of influencing factors in your life such as posture, stress levels, dietary habits and exercise regime.

Here is a tentative list of conditions in which Osteopaths are presented with, assess and or treat:

Back pain, Joint pains (shoulder, hip, knee), Minor sports injuries, Muscular spasm/tension, Referred pain, Postural problems, Mechanical imbalances, Workplace injury…….

What Happens During An Osteopathic Appointment?

Osteopaths are highly trained practitioners who use their hands to assess, treat and facilitate the healing process. Osteopaths use a range of techniques to promote the idea healing environment. Techniques include a combination of soft tissue manipulation, joint articulation/mobilisations and high velocity manipulations. Throughout and after a treatment, both you and the osteopath will discuss relevant key issues regarding your home care program and relating to changes to daily activities of living. After the assessment, treatment and retesting the osteopath will evaluate how many treatments would be necessary
