What we treat
Common reasons patients book a home visit
Osteopaths work with the muscles, joints and soft tissue. These are the problems Dermott sees most often.
Back pain
Acute and long-standing back pain, including lower back pain and lumbago, and the stiffness and aching that come with it.
Sciatica
Pain, tingling or aching that runs from the lower back or buttock down the leg.
Neck pain
Stiff, sore necks from desk work, long periods looking down or sleeping awkwardly. A neck injury such as whiplash needs a full assessment first.
Headaches from the neck
Headaches that arise from tension and stiffness in the neck, known as cervicogenic headaches.
Shoulder and elbow pain
Including frozen shoulder and tennis elbow, particularly where they are linked to the neck or upper back.
Hip and knee pain
Joint pain from osteoarthritis, as part of your wider care, alongside your GP's advice and exercise.
Joint and muscle pain
Arthritic and joint aches, muscle spasm, cramp and general aches and pains.
Sports injuries
Minor sports injuries, strains and niggles, and advice on getting back to the activities you enjoy.
Posture and work strain
Pain linked to desk work, driving, lifting or long hours in the same position.
Tension and stress
Muscle tension and the physical effects of stress, with hands-on treatment to help you relax.
This is general information, not medical advice. It is not a promise of results, and how you respond to treatment will be individual to you. Dermott can only say whether osteopathy is right for you after he has assessed you. Not sure whether your problem is on this list? Call or message us and we will tell you honestly.
How osteopathy helps
What happens at your visit
Listen and assess
Dermott asks about your symptoms, health history and daily life, then examines how you stand and move.
Hands-on treatment
Treatment may include soft tissue massage, stretching and gentle joint mobilisation, adapted to you and agreed with you first.
Advice to take away
You leave with advice on exercises, posture and self-care so you can look after yourself between visits.
Appointments are 50 to 60 minutes, in your own home, with a portable treatment table brought by Dermott.
Is osteopathy right for you?
Safety first
Tell us before you book
Let Dermott know if you take blood-thinning medicines or are at increased risk of bleeding or stroke, have very weak or damaged bones or joints, or have a nerve condition. Osteopathy may not be suitable, or may need to be adapted.
See your GP first if
Your symptoms are not improving or keep coming back, or you are unsure what is causing them. Dermott will refer you on if he thinks something else is going on.
Get urgent help if
You lose control of your bladder or bowel, have numbness around the buttocks or genitals, chest pain, severe leg weakness, or severe back pain after a serious fall or accident. Call 999 or go to A&E.
Have a complex medical history or an existing health condition? Please complete our brief clinical screening form before booking so Dermott can assess your suitability for treatment.
